2.1--Who do you want to be ten years from now and what do you want to be doing? What operative principles lie behind the choices you would have to make to be that person doing those things?
I honestly have unrealistic expectations for the future. I have a major tendency to look at things very optimistically (too optimistically). I have these dreams that will most likely never happen, but I can’t help but continue to dream of them. My dreams are unrealistic, and even though I tell myself, “Talia, don’t get your hopes up too high, you’ll get depressed otherwise!” I still get my hopes up too high. But what’s the point of living if you don’t try to make the best of any situation?
Anyway, my main wish is to become a mangaka. Okay, most normal people do not know what a mangaka is. Now, I should be spelling it as 漫画家, but most people have no idea what that says. In English, a mangaka is a comic artist; except mangakas draw manga not comic books. Similar but different. Comic books have super heroes defeating the bad guys and destroying the city in the process, but no one cares because, “You saved us Superman!” Manga on the other hand, can have superhero stories but tends to not go that route, they usually revolve around drama and morals and saving your friends. I want to be able to create stories that people enjoy because of the morals and values held by my characters. The hard part of being a mangaka though is the story. I am not a naturally good writer, I struggle writing good stories that people enjoy, stories that stick with people long after they’re finished.
And that leads me to my other dream. I can’t write good stories, but I can draw. A certain someone I know is an amazing story teller, but not the greatest at drawing. I’d like to think that a few years in the future, I will enlist this friends help to write this story that I see but can’t write. I doubt this friend would mind very much either, helping me, for various reasons that I don’t want to go into detail about.
I will achieve these dreams, I’m working on them as these days go by. I’m making the manga I’m dreaming of, I’m pursuing my dreams to become a mangaka, and I’m in contact with that certain person who will hopefully help me with my story. I will make my dreams reality, no matter how unrealistic they make seem.
2.2--Is breaking the law ever justified? Many people will say no, a law is a law no matter what it is. I say yes, if a law is unjust then you have the right to break that law. Ok, not a right, but you have a civil duty to get rid of laws that are unjust. Our modern world would be extremely, radically different if people hadn’t broken the law. Look at Martin Luther King Junior, for example. He is one of the most looked-up-to people in this country, but he broke the law many, many times.
Our country is as it is now because MLK Jr. stood up for the rights he should have had. He knew that the rights of the white men should have been the rights of his as well; just because he was of color didn’t mean he was any less human. And it’s the same with Rosa Parks. She broke the law by sitting in the “white” portion of a bus, she got arrested, but is still revered today as someone who helped bring about black and white equality.
Laws must be broken if they are unjust. Of course, if one does decide to break the law, he must be able to accept the consequences. Obviously, if you break the law, you’re going to get arrested. The police are programmed to enforce the law, whether they believe in it or not; police are robots that follow their masters commands, no matter what those commands may be.
Now, before I get in trouble for speaking about police like that, let me explain my opinion on who I think had the strongest arguments. I honestly think King had the strongest arguments. That might be because I have a bias for him. I just believe he is one of the most influential people of the Civil Rights Movement. He is the reason “black” people now have more rights than they did then, they may still be struggling with racism, but we will make things better for everyone.
All in all, breaking unjust laws is a necessity for Americans to break this rigged system. The system that is rigged against us. I wish we didn’t have to worry about unjust laws, but with an unjust government there will always be unjust laws. And all we can do to fix that is to fight.
