"History Repeats Itself"

I think history can be similar but it won’t necessarily be an exact repetition. In fact the full quote for “history repeats itself” is actually, “History repeats itself because no one was listening the first time." So it’s basically saying that if you don’t pay attention in history class, you’ll be one of the people responsible for making history repeat; as another quote by George Santayana says, "Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it."

I’d actually like to say something that is going to be very controversial to some people. I think Donald Trump did not pay very much attention in his history classes. Trump is not an intelligent person, and I don’t honestly understand why he’s seriously being considered for the presidency. Recently, he said that he wants to close the borders to all Middle Easterners, and kick Middle Easterners out of the country. Even if they’ve lived here their whole lives. Now, I do understand that he wants to do this to not let in ISIS members, but he’s not even allowing women and children, the people who really can’t do anything without a man in the house. He’s letting fear be his reasoning behind his running for president, but this has happened once before. When Hitler started taking over Europe and killing Jews, the Jews would try to flee to America to protect themselves and their families. And out of fear, America closed the borders to all Jews. Now, once again I understand that the people were afraid of Hitler coming to America, but I don’t honestly think he would have. And that ended in one of the biggest genocides in history. I think if we don’t allow at least the Middle Eastern women and children then we will have another mass genocide on our hands.

Now this is not to say that I know exactly what I’m talking about. I just believe that history has moments where something similar happens in the present that happened in the past. But I don’t honestly believe that history necessarily repeats; I think it just has similar things happen. Being as I don’t often see things that are exactly like something that’s happened in the past. But being as 2020 is in a few years, if we start reverting back to old-fashion 20’s outfits, I’ll start to worry. Being as that ended with the Great Depression, the Dust Bowl, and later WWII.

Honestly though, I do not fully believe that history “repeats,” it just has similar happenings. I mean, repetition is usually exact. History has never had an exact happening ever. But this is all my opinion, I’m not necessarily right, but this is the way I feel about “history repeating”
